I Heart Macro, week 14.

Elderberries, still green and not yet ripe, but there are lots of berries so I hope for a little harvest eventually.

There are plenty of elderberries because I did not pick any flowers earlier in summer.
This year I would like to make elderberry syrup instead of elderflower cordial (that is if the birds don't get to the berries before me).

The elder bush is not native to Norway, but was probably brought here in the Middle Ages (or perhaps earlier), and has been in cultivation ever since.

The berries are rich in vitamin C, and elderberry syrup is good against cold, fever and flu.

I think the clusters of berries look pretty, especially with the raindrops :)

Even though they aren't ripe, they make wonderful photos! I love the simplicity of the theme.

Vackra bilder! Jag hoppas du hinner plocka en del bär innan fåglarna äter upp dem alla.

I want to try using elderberries for the first time this summer. Here in Iceland we don´t do anything with the... I´m just wondering at what point you pick those berries?

Kristin; the berries can be picked when they have turned black as then they are ripe :) Use berries only, no stems.
